SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE

* This ruthlessly beautiful show at Kanonhallen is a condensed indoor version with a vast expanse of water giving birth to graciously moving characters and engulfing them again in gliding death shrouded in magical mist. From this secretively murmuring, restlessly mirroring, ironically undulating womb, a rock rises, a potent, coolly geometrical sculpture by the scenographer B.v.H.H.S. a rigorous counterpoint in its uncompromising lines and origamic grace. Dizzying scenography. Now this piece of nature glows like passionate, red dusk. Now it shines in whitest daylight or as the clearest aquamarine expanse in Kim Rostgaard’s refined lighting. The mind boggles at the sights that unfold, again and again, like nine stories and heavens, one behind the other.

* Rock formations rise in Kanonhallen, two giant, metallically sharp triangles – now blue-black, now blood-red – in the wondrous water world created by scenographer B.v.H.H.S.
In a fanciful suite of images and narratives gleaned from fairytales and myths, mermaids appear with flowing manes and bare bellies and doomed, love-struck sailors on their heels.

* On the whole, there are heaps of endlessly beautiful images to savor in B.v.H.H.S’s Bruegel- and Grand Guignol-inspired, fantasy-colored costumes cut from shiny, silk-like fabric, as surrealist figures double in the shattering mirror of water.

* Lavishly, B.v.H.H.S.’s simple, stunningly attractive scenography rests in an enormous lake glowing in Kim Rostgaard’s stylish fireworks lighting. The show’s costumes work perfectly both on land and on water.
